We make wine with personality

BAS is a Danish organic vineyard and winery on Møn, where some of the country’s most promising growing conditions meet a relentless curiosity for winemaking.

Guided by terroir, time and minimal intervention, we create distinctive wines that reflect the character of our landscape and the future potential of Danish quality wine. Alongside grapes from our own vineyards, we collaborate with selected growers to explore new varieties and expressions, expanding our understanding of what Danish wine can become.

Our story

BAS Winery was founded on the western coast of Møn with a simple ambition: to create wines with personality!

What began as an experiment 15 years ago has evolved into a conviction: that Denmark has the potential to become a recognised cool-climate wine region, and that exceptional wines can emerge from the right locations, where climate, soil and terroir come together in rare harmony.

Møn provides the foundation for everything we do. Surrounded by the Baltic Sea, shaped by long Nordic summer days and rooted in limestone-rich soils, our vineyards benefit from some of Denmark’s most promising growing conditions. Warm summers, limited rainfall and a unique coastal microclimate allow the fruit to ripen slowly while preserving freshness, acidity and aromatic complexity.

Our approach is guided by the belief that great wine begins with growing the right grapes in the right place. We explore the potential of Danish viticulture through careful experimentation with grape varieties, vineyard practices and winemaking techniques. Rather than following tradition we carefully select the grape varieties best suited to the climate, soils and growing conditions on Basnæs. By working with varieties that naturally thrive in our unique coastal environment, we can focus on achieving greater fruit quality, balance and expression in every vintage.

At BAS, we believe that great wines are not engineered — they are guided. The most important ingredient is time. Time in the vineyard, time in the cellar and time for nature to reveal its character. Rather than pursuing uniformity, we embrace the variations of each season and allow every harvest to tell its own story. We do not release the wines according to a timetable, but according to their readiness. We are in no hurry. Great wine cannot be rushed; it emerges gradually, shaped by time as much as by terroir.

As Denmark's wine industry matures, the conversation is no longer about whether quality wine can be produced here. The challenge is how far we can take it. BAS Winery is committed to helping define that future — creating wines that are honest, distinctive and unmistakably shaped by Møn.

Wines

Every BAS wine begins in the vineyard, shaped by the unique growing conditions of Møn and the character of each individual season.

Working with hand-picked organic grapes and fruit from our own estate and selected growers, we craft wines using traditional methods and minimal intervention. Our role is not to impose a style, but to guide the process carefully, allowing the fruit, fermentation and vintage to express themselves as naturally as possible.

Curiosity remains at the heart of what we do. We continuously explore new grape varieties, fruit combinations and winemaking techniques, always with the ambition of discovering flavours that are distinctive, balanced and rooted in place.

No two vintages are ever the same. Climate, weather and harvest conditions vary from year to year, and we embrace these differences rather than seeking uniformity. We believe that authenticity comes from responding to nature, not controlling it.

As Danish wine continues to evolve, we see each bottle as part of a larger story — one that demonstrates the potential of exceptional sites such as Møn to produce wines with freshness, complexity and character.

Each bottle captures a particular season, a particular landscape and a particular moment in time. Your choice should be BAS... naturally!

The winery

Our home is Basnæsgård, a 17-hectare organic farm on the western coast of Møn. Shaped by generations of careful stewardship, the landscape is a rare mosaic of vineyards, meadows, woodlands and coastline, where nature and agriculture exist in close balance. Basnæsgård is more than a farm; it is an ecosystem defined by biodiversity and the foundation of everything we do. We see ourselves not as owners, but as caretakers — entrusted with preserving and revealing the character of this extraordinary place for generations to come.

The estate's south/west-facing slopes, limestone-rich soils and maritime climate provide some of the most promising growing conditions for wine production in Denmark. A long summer season, sea breezes and limited rainfall create a unique microclimate that allows fruit to ripen while retaining the freshness and balance that define great cool-climate wines.

The same conditions make it possible to farm with a light touch. Low disease pressure allows us to minimise interventions in the vineyard and remain committed to organic cultivation. We also continue to refine our selection of grape varieties, favouring those that are naturally suited to the local climate and increasingly resilient under organic farming practices. By matching the right varieties to the right site, we can produce healthier fruit, reduce the need for treatments and allow the character of Møn to shine through in every vintage.

This is only the beginning of the journey, but we believe the future of Danish wine will be defined by exceptional places. For us, that place is Basnæs.
